Guggenheim Fellowship

The John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation provides fellowships for advanced professionals in all fields (natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, creative arts) except the performing arts (see the Guggenheim Foundation website for details and history about this fellowship).

The following current and former University of Minnesota faculty have received Guggenheim Fellowships while serving at the University.

Andrew Carnegie Fellowship

The Andrew Carnegie Fellowship is an annual fellowship program of the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The program, inaugurated in 2015, provides support for scholars in the social sciences and humanities.

The Fellows receive awards of up to $200,000 each, which will enable them to take sabbaticals in order to devote time to their research and writing.

Who's on the Wall

Nearly 100 University of Minnesota faculty and alumni are featured on the Discovery Wall, which includes Dr. Robert Good’s notes for an article on the first successful bone transplant, James Ryan’s patent drawings of the airplane flight recorder, Dr. Catherine Verfaille’s notes on the stem cell research, and even Bob Dylan’s lyrics to “Temporary Like Achilles.” The installation allows viewers a window into the minds of the University’s most renowned faculty and students.

About the Scholars Walk

Scholars Walk, a prominent pathway spanning nearly 2,200 feet, celebrates the research and classroom accomplishments of the University of Minnesota’s award-winning faculty, alumni, and students. It is lined with 40 bur oak trees, lighted monuments, and includes the Wall of Discovery, a 253-foot-long artistic tribute to the process that leads to great moments of discovery.
